I’m a Qualified Genealogist (member of the Register of Qualified Genealogists) based in Cardiff. I completed the Postgraduate Certificate in Genealogical, Palaeographic and Heraldic Studies with the University of Strathclyde in 2021, the Postgraduate Diploma in 2023, and the MSc (with Distinction) in 2024. My Diploma project was a study of late sixteenth century Chancery cases relating to the county of Somerset, and my Masters dissertation focused on defamation causes at Llandaff consistory court in the early nineteenth century.
I’ve been researching my own family history for over fifteen years. Most of my ancestry is in south Wales and south-west England, although a few branches stretch to Lincolnshire, Suffolk, County Antrim, and elsewhere.
I’m a member of several societies including Glamorgan Family History Society (past chair of Cardiff and Vale branch), Roath Local History Society (former committee member), Somerset & Dorset Family History Society, Weston-super-Mare Family History Society and Bristol & Avon Family History Society. I am also a postgraduate member of the Royal Historical Society. From 2014 to 2021 I was editor of the P*rr*tt Society (One Name Study) journal Family Notes.
I’ve given talks for Glamorgan Family History Society, Roath Local History Society, THE Genealogy Show, Glamorgan Archives, RootsTech and the Guild of One-Name Studies. I’ve also spoken about my academic work at the Welsh Postgraduate History Conference and the SIGS Genealogy Research Network. During 2023/2024 I worked as a researcher on the Papal Dispensations for Marriage Project at the University of Strathclyde, funded by the Foundation for Medieval Genealogy.
At present I am not available for regular paid research work, but if you have a particular question or brick wall that you think I might be able to help with, please do get in touch.
